CleanYourTV setup guide
A starting point for a calmer Android TV or Google TV home screen.
CleanYourTV is an open-source project by Gathin23. This website is an independent, free guide to its workflow. The local source package includes the project README, prompt, device examples, themes, troubleshooting notes, and security notes.
Start with your exact TV
Check your model, region, and firmware in the examples/ device reports inside the extracted source package. Android TV and Google TV are the supported starting point. The installation prompt does not support Fire TV, Samsung Tizen, or LG webOS.
Prepare the TV
Keep your TV and computer on the same local network. Open Settings, then About, and press the Build entry seven times to unlock Developer options. Enable USB debugging and Network/ADB debugging if available. Only approve a debugging request from your own trusted computer.
Find the TV's IPv4 address under its Network or Wi-Fi settings and give it to the assistant. The setup form on this website can include that address in your starter prompt; it does not scan or connect to your network.
Some Google TV sets use Wireless debugging with a pairing code and separate connection port. If the normal connection does not work, follow the pairing branch in the installation prompt instead of assuming port 5555 is always open. Connection troubleshooting explains what to check.
Follow the current project workflow
Open the downloadable installation prompt in a coding assistant with terminal access. Give it your exact model and ask it to proceed in checkpoints. The project is free; some coding assistants charge separately.
Before changes, save package lists, disabled-package states, settings, and device information. Confirm which streaming apps, voice assistant, casting services, and updates you want to keep. Do not disable unknown packages or essential input, remote, audio, keyboard, or Play services.
The launcher is built from source. Download the complete source ZIP and extract it. Keep the entire project folder: the build scripts also need files from tools/ and launcher/.
Prepare Python 3, JDK 17, Android SDK Platform 34, and Android Build Tools 34.0.0. The extracted README.md contains the manual setup details. Download the matching Windows build script or macOS/Linux build script, place it in the extracted launcher/ directory, and run it from there; these are source build scripts, not ready-made APK downloads.
Before the new launcher becomes Home, keep the original launcher enabled until the replacement opens successfully. Verify the Home button on the TV rather than relying only on a command's success message.
Some firmware blocks sideloaded apps or third-party Home launchers. If the device rejects installation with a verification or manufacturer-signature restriction, stop the launcher installation and read the exact model's notes. Repeated installation attempts do not establish compatibility.
Verify and finish
Check Home, your remote's shortcut and Settings buttons, HDMI inputs, sound, and casting. Turn debugging off, revoke authorizations, reboot, and use the downloadable ADB-closed verification tool to confirm the ADB port refuses connections. A timeout or a routing error is not the same as a confirmed refusal.
Make the launcher yours
Once the basic setup works, use the launcher's settings to arrange app rows and decide whether to keep animations. The extracted themes/README.md explains changing the background, colors, and dock. Check the theme's instructions before applying it, and verify the remote and Home button again afterward.
Restore or troubleshoot
Keep the original package lists and state records on your computer. Download the matching Windows restore script or macOS/Linux restore script, place it in the extracted tools/ directory, and use it with the exact list you applied. These scripts restore recorded states; they are not a complete system image. For model-specific problems and security guidance, read docs/TROUBLESHOOTING.md and SECURITY.md inside the extracted source package.
